Why Water 1st International?

Water 1stWater 1st International is committed to bringing safe water and sanitation to all those in need, specifically in Ethiopia, Bangladesh, India and Honduras. They have already provided nearly 20,000 people with access to clean water and sanitation, just within their first few years. Water 1st provides an all around service. eth-waterThey work closely with reputable local organizations to execute their projects. These organizations train the community to maintain, build, and plan their own water systems.

This is why Bonzer5.org has chosen Water 1st International to be our first charity organization. We believe in their method to fight worldwide poverty. We know that the money we raise for this organization will go directly to our chosen project, Ethiopia. We will see change. We will witness how our efforts have a lifetime impact on those in desperate need.

Facts: The Water Crisis

One out of every five people on earth do not have clean water–the most basic ingredient needed to sustain life. Two out of every five people do not have access to basic sanitation. The resulting illnesses caused by lack of these basic necessities causes the deaths of over 5 million people each year. -water1st.org

  • 1.1 billion people do not have access to a safe and adequate water supply
  • 2.4 billion people lack access to improved sanitation
  • Every day 5,000 children die from preventable water-related illness.
  • Even if the explicit Millennium Goals announced by the United Nations in 2000 are achieved, between 34 and 76 million people will perish from water-related diseases by 2020
  • The World Health Organization estimates that 80% of all sickness in the world is attributable to unsafe water and sanitation

Dollars = Action

One of Water 1st’s projects at the moment is in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. They are currently working on a water and sanitation project in Bishikitu. When completed, this project will benefit 12 villages and over 4,500 people.

  • $725 – construction of a public water point serving 500 peoplegirl water pump
    Project beneficiaries help construct piped water systems that deliver safe water to conveniently located public taps. A water point like this one helps lift a community out of poverty. Women and girls no longer spend their days walking for water, and instead, invest their time and energy into education and economic activities that move their families forward.
  • $330 – water management training for five village board members
    Your donation will provide a week-long training course for members of the Bishikiltu community who were elected to serve on the Water Management Board.
    Board members learn essential management tasks that ensure the project’s sustainability, such as maintaining financial records of water dues paid and costs incurred.

  • Bonzer5.org is a direct expression of reciprocal maintenance. It is an effort to feed back into a continuing system, whether in the context of society and community, or in the natural sense of energy and environment.

    Now more than ever the local is the global. But globalization is not simply a mechanical stream of commerce and culture. Rather, it presents to us an unprecedented opportunity and responsibility to utilize its tools and radically transform the planet anew. Every day our actions carry a capacity to affect positively on other localized systems, even ones thousands of miles away. Bonzer5.org's aim is to accelerate and facilitate this exchange by focusing directly on causes and issues that we feel are not only important, but vital in creating a more just, peaceful, and dignified world.
